Operation Market Garden 2014
‘The Bricklayers Arms Troop’
On 17 September 1944, the plan devised by Montgomery to end the war by Christmas commenced, flying 35,000 US, Polish & British paratroopers 63 miles behind German lines in an attempt to capture with “thunder clap surprise” the bridges between Lommel in Belgium and Arnhem in Holland.
To commemorate the 70th Anniversary, the ‘Bricklayers Arms Troop’ will undertake a 75-mile march in memory of the soldiers who did not return, crossing each of the nine bridges during their five day route march. To read about how the team are getting on please click here.

Troy’s Maroon and Tartan Challenge
Troy Mason’s summer holiday wasn’t quite like most 12 year olds, with a 200 mile Para themed challenge walking, swimming and climbing his way across Scotland. Troy has raised over £1600 for Paracharity and would like to thank his supporters. He is hoping he can get to his £2000 target however so if you can help please visit his fundraising page. The Challenge was extremely hard for Troy and he had to draw on a lot of inner strength. Paracharity would like to thank Troy and his Dad for their efforts. British 10k London Run 2014
All 18 spots in the Paracharity British 10k London Run team were taken well before the cut off date, and although we had a few not able to run due to injury, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We had runners from Newcastle, Cornwall, Wales and numerous other parts of the UK. The event is quite special allowing the competitors to run past some of the key landmarks in Central London. This year, 2014, marking the centenary of the start of the First World War was to be, truly memorable, with a parade of mounted WWI Cavalry Officers, Tommies and current servicmen as well as readings of First World War poetry and a performance by the Salisbury Plains Military Wives Choir; and all this before the start! The weather wasn’t the most cheerful with a series of cold rain showers and blazing hot interludes, but it did set the mood appropriately. Everyone was pleased with their performance, despite the testing changes in temperature and expressed an interest in returning to run for Paracharity in 2015. If you would like to run for the Charity in 2015 please keep an eye on the website, Facebook and Twitter. We usually start recruiting in January for the event which be ran on 12th July.
70 for the 70th Anniversary – Charity Skydive
To mark the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, Paracharity held a commemorative skydive at Skydive Hibaldstow on 7th June. The weather forecast for 2014 wasn’t much better than that of 1944 and so plans had to be rethought. An option not available in 1944. Read More

The 2014 Colchester PARAS’10 held on 18th May was a huge success with over 800 entrants battling the heat, mud, and water. Our youngest competitor was just 16 whilst our oldest was 7 years old at the time of D-Day. Colchester PARAS’10 2014 also saw our first startline marriage proposal, our first overhead view of the start and the first time new entrants outnumbered our loyal fans. Read more here.
